Our Reviews
Born in 1946. Still Standing.
Tail o' the Pup opened on La Cienega Boulevard in June 1946, drawing Hollywood celebrities and curious Angelenos from day one. Designed by architect Milton J. Black, the stand became one of the defining examples of California's golden era of novelty architecture - buildings shaped like the things they sold.
After closing in 2005 and spending years in storage, the Pup was acquired in 2018 by preservation-focused hospitality group 1933 Group, the same team behind Highland Park Bowl, Idle Hour, and Formosa Café. On July 20, 2022 - National Hot Dog Day - Tail o' the Pup made its triumphant return at its permanent new home on Santa Monica Boulevard in the heart of West Hollywood.
Today, the iconic hot dog-shaped stand serves a new generation of Angelenos alongside the celebrities, locals, and curious visitors who have made it an LA landmark for nearly 80 years. The full menu stays true to its roots - classic franks, loaded dogs, burgers, corn dogs, shakes, beer, and more.
You’re in Good Company
Tail o' the Pup sits at the heart of West Hollywood - steps from some of LA's most iconic addresses. From legendary music venues to Hollywood's most storied hotel, the Pup has always kept the best company. And there's one more piece of history hiding in the walls: the building attached to the stand is the very space where The Doors recorded their final studio album, L.A. Woman, in 1971.
One of LA’s most storied live music venues. Elton John’s US debut. Carole King. James Taylor. Still going.
Where Letterman, Robin Williams, and Andrew Dice Clay cut their teeth. Sunset Strip royalty.
The hotel that Hollywood's been checking in and out of since 1929. Equal parts glamour and mystery.
The "Blue Whale" - three glass buildings housing LA's premier design and architecture showrooms.
Whisky a Go, Go, The Roxy, Tower Records(gone but not forgotten). The mile that made rock and roll.
WeHo's community's anchor - farmers market, dog park, and the Aquatic & Recreation Center.
